My top 10 photographs of 2015

We are in second week of 2016 so it is time to reflect back on 2015 and pick my usual favourite photographs. It is obviously difficult task to edit own photos and different people would probably come up with different selection. That is the way it is. I too familiar with every photograph. I remember exactly the moment and place it was taken and of course I have emotional connection to them that others don't have. All this influenced my selection. It is not only about photograph. Should it be? Perhaps, but without further ado, here they are.

Tracks of Bangkok Railway Station also known as Hua Lamphong Station. It is the main railway station in Bangkok, Thailand. It is in the center of the city in the Pathum Wan District. Opened in 1916, Hua Lamphong boasts an elegant design, similar to several government buildings and public monuments built during the same period. The station is also a terminus of the Eastern and Oriental Express luxury trains.

Camels taking expedition equipment from the Khuiten base camp in the heart of Mongolian Altai. This is my most successful photograph of that particular Mongolian trip. Great light, sky, beautiful environment and successful composition came together to create this photograph. I was fortunate to be in that place at the right time.

This is the photograph when everything came together. Right place at the right time, good subject, early morning light that plays well with the dust cloud created by herd of goat. I took several shots but when the herder emerged from dust I felt it is going to be the best version of the scene. It has more value as documentary photograph when we see the full picture.

Kazakh eagle hunter. This photograph, in my opinion describes this ethnic minority living in Bayan-Olgii province in Western Mongolia. They stand tall, proud and beautiful. Eagle hunting has long lasting tradition among Kazakhs and it is remembered on annual eagle hunting festival that takes place in city of Olgii.

This is a typical scene from any South_East Asian market. Narrow pathways, just wide enough to move through. This doesn't stop people on motorbikes to go in and do their shopping without getting of the bike. This particular photograph was taken in Kandal market in Phnom Penh.

Light of hope? During holidays in Cambodia people come to Dorngkeur Shrine in Phnom Penh's riverside to make offerings and say their prayers while burn incense sticks. Young children like this little boy are walking around with coconut shell with little fire and offering the flame to people to light the sticks for little money. A way to help out struggling family.

When I look at this photograph I see the future of Cambodia. These young students are waiting for appearance of his majesty the king of Cambodia. They gave me this pose when I was walking by. Nearly 100% of all educated people were killed of during Khmer Rouge regime. That would be a huge loss to any country. Educated youth is what Cambodia needs and this picture tells me the country is on a good way to better future.

This is a scene I came across during my walks on the streets of very hot Phnom Penh day. Little boy is taking nap in the shade of tuk-tuk roof while his little monkey pet is sitting by his side like guardian angel. My feelings from this photograph can be described by single word. Peace.

This is one of the few selfies I have taken and definitely my favourite. It is no secret, I have a "fatherly" feeling for this little angel. Every time I visit Cambodia I find time to see her and we always have tons of fun on playground, beach or restaurant. Love you Little Mermaid.

Intimate moment between mother and son. It was quite challenging to take pictures in relatively dark ger. Another challenge was to take a picture that showed their life especially when kids wanted to see every picture I've taken immediately. I captured this moment when mother cut the long nails of this little boy. Good moment for photograph. He looked straight in the camera but couldn't run to me to "chimp" on the rear screen.
